How to tell them apart
The flags of Nicaragua and El Salvador are both Central American bands of blue, white and blue, so they’re easy to mix up at a glance. This is what gives each one away:
- Both centre a triangle; only El Salvador's is framed by a laurel wreath and blue and white flags.
- Nicaragua's triangle, five volcanoes under a rainbow, sits in a plain ring of gold lettering.
- Nicaragua's blue is lighter and brighter than El Salvador's.
