How to tell them apart
The flags of Croatia and Serbia are both pan-Slavic red, white and blue bands with a crowned coat of arms, so they’re easy to mix up at a glance. This is what gives each one away:
- The middle band differs: Croatia runs red, white, blue from the top; Serbia runs red, blue, white.
- Croatia's centred shield is a red and white checkerboard under a crown of five small shields.
- Serbia's emblem, set towards the hoist, is a white double-headed eagle on a red shield under a gold crown.
- Croatia's flag is longer: 1:2, against Serbia's 2:3.
