How to tell them apart
The flags of Egypt and Iraq are both pan-Arab horizontal tricolours with a white middle band over black, so they’re easy to mix up at a glance. This is what gives each one away:
- Egypt has a gold eagle in its white band; Iraq has a line of green Arabic script.
- The eagle is the Eagle of Saladin; the script reads Allahu akbar (God is the greatest).
- Both are 2:3 with red, white and black bands, so the emblem is the tell.
