New ZealandAustralia and New ZealandFull meaning & history →How to tell them apart
The flags of Australia and New Zealand are both blue ensigns with the Union Jack and the Southern Cross, so they’re easy to mix up at a glance. This is what gives each one away:
- New Zealand's Southern Cross is four red stars edged in white; Australia's is five white stars.
- Australia adds a large seven-pointed Commonwealth Star under the Union Jack; New Zealand has none.
- Count the stars: six on Australia's flag, four on New Zealand's.
